Attics

Attics are where we keep those things far too treasured to ever discard. We keep them for some anticipated need. The need is memories. That's where I found you last night, as I often have. You were neatly tucked away in the attic of my mind Your beauty is far more radiant in my mind's eye, than ever the world could behold: The smile perched so sweetly on your lips, the light in your eyes softly diffused. The vividness of your being always seems startling. There you are . . . .It's a warm summer day. And you gather your children around - a proud mother hen with her precious chicks. Laughter and happiness ring forth as all nature responds around you. This is your time, and meaningful purpose in life. What a beautiful sweater!. . . you look like a native of Colorado. Your hair is pulled up under a warm cap, with cherry on your nose and cheeks from the kisses of mountain breezes.. You fit so perfectly by the tree, with lake and mountains and sky in the background. Here in the attic is the black dress with the fringe around the bottom. You wear it so proudly. . . so confidently. You'll always stand out in a crowd; Not for the way you wear your hair, or your clothes, but for the way you wear you. There you are again. . . . . . . . .another beautiful sweater, the same tree, lake, mountains, sky. This time there's snow, but you don't look as happy. Could I be part of the cause? Did I not love you enough to be unselfish? Did I put too much of me in the attic, and not enough of us? I see you waiting. . . .painfully waiting . . . . .always trying, always giving, always forgiving. Your warmth and tenderness seems unmeasurable. No sacrifice appears to be too great. The family in the attic is all important. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It's time to leave now. Put all the treasures back in their proper place. All the sweet memories are sorted in order, to be used again at some private time. I'll come back again. . . . . . . . .I always do. And though there are many treasures in the attic. . . None are so fine as you Poems by Ron Baron Please View Next Page ~ ~ ~
